James Sarsfield sat quietly in the prisoner’s box in Huntsville, showing almost no emotion as the graphic details of his assaults on three children were described in court.

Emotional victim impact statements were ready by family members during the 35-year-old’s sentencing hearing on Monday. One victim’s mother asked, “Do you know what it's like when your heart breaks? I do."

Sarsfield has pleaded guilty to sexual assault with a weapon, three counts of sexual interference and making, possessing and distributing child pornography.

“How could someone do something so sick and twisted to my precious little girls?"

The Crown is seeking 15 to 18 years in custody, while the defence wants eight to 10 years with credit for time he's already served.

The Crown attorney didn't hold back when he described Sarsfield's crimes to the court.  He called the child pornography as "sadistic and extreme." The Crown says the impact is long lasting since once it's "uploaded and distributed it’s out in the world... never to be taken back."

The defence argued that Sarsfield was a victim of sexual and physical assault himself as a young child.

Sarsfield will be back in court for sentencing on June 10.
