A date has been set for the trail of a man charged in the death of a man at a mini-putt course in Barrie two years ago.

Matthew Spring, 20, is facing a second-degree murder charge for the death of Bradley Hubbard.

The case will go to trial in September.

Hubbard was killed in August 2011 after he was struck in the throat with a golf club after an altercation at the centre in Barrie's south end. Second-degree murder charges were recently dropped against two other young men involved in the case, because the crown believed there was no reasonable prospect for a conviction. Spring's lawyer is confident a jury will come to the same conclusion.

The trial will begin Sept. 15 and is expected to last four weeks. Spring remains free on bail.
