A jury has found a New Lowell man guilty of manslaughter in the death of his wife.

The jury delivered the verdict to Mitchell Brooks on Friday afternoon in a Barrie court. He stood in the prisoner's box when the verdict was read, not really conveying any sort of emotion.

Brooks was facing a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of his wife Deena Brooks in their New Lowell home in 2013.

The defence argued the shooting was an accident, and Brooks meant to kill himself. However, the Crown argued he deliberately killed Deena after finding out she wanted a divorce.

Deena's brothers were in attendance when the verdict was delivered. They say after hearing closing arguments and the judge's instructions, they were expecting the manslaughter conviction.

The jury could have also of found Brooks guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder or not guilty.
