A woman has been charged in connection to the theft of thousands of dollars from a Barrie cadet corps.

Barrie police launched an investigation six months ago to look into allegations of money being stolen from the 2919 Grey and Simcoe Foresters Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps.

According to police, the female suspect has been collecting funds on behalf of the cadets, but the money was never transferred into the accounts. Investigators allege she ended up keeping about $12,000 for herself.

On Monday, police say they were able to locate the 38-year-old accused and charged her with theft over $5,000. Officers say the woman has been relieved of her treasury duties with the Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps.

She has since been released on a promise to appear in court next month.
