Two hunters had to be rescued from Lake Simcoe on Friday morning after the boat they were in started to take in water.
Emergency crews got the call around 7:30 a.m. Friday morning after one of the hunters called 911.
South Simcoe Police says the two were in a 14 foot aluminium boat about two kilometres from shore in the south end of Cook’s Bay.
Police and firefighters from York Region and Innisfil responded.
Michael Amaron was also duck hunting nearby when the boat became submerged and the hunters fell into the water.
"We noticed they were bailing out their boat and thought something must have been wrong."
Georgiana Fire located the men, who were standing in waist deep water, and brought them to shore.
The two men, 53 & 29, were checked out by paramedics but didn’t suffer any injuries and were wearing the proper floating gear and were lucky to walk away unharmed.
Bird hunting season lasts until January but police warn the conditions now are always changing and the cold water can be very dangerous.
"The water temperature is about four degrees right now so if you fall into the water all your limbs will start to freeze right away," says York Regional Police Sgt. Chris Hyland.
Police are stressing that anyone planning to go out on the water should always check the conditions first and make sure they are prepared.
