A 72-year-old Scarborough man is dead after a tree fell on him in Muskoka on Sunday.

Police say the man and his son-in-law were cutting down a tree around 11 a.m. on a property at Longs Lake road , near Utterson, when it fell on both of them.

Family members removed the tree from on top of the men and called 911 immediately. Both men were taken to a hospital in Huntsville.

The older man died from his injuries while his 42-year-old son-in-law was airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto with serious injuries.

Police are still investigating.
