Search crews were back out looking for any clues that could lead them to a missing Barrie senior.

Barrie police and the OPP searched wooded areas and snowmobile trails along Penetanguishene Road in Oro-Medonte for Mandy Thompson. For the first time, their search took officers north of Highway 11.

“Several areas that had been ice and snow covered during the initial search were re-visited and thoroughly searched. At the time of Mandy’s disappearance she had the ability to travel a significant distance in a short period of time,” Const. Sarah Bamford wrote in a release.

Investigators are hoping they might find clues that were originally covered by snow. Crews were last out searching for the 72-year-old at the beginning of March.

“The mild weather has provided access to areas which had been previously inaccessible as a result of heavy snow and ice build-up. Police are requesting that anyone living in the areas previously search and north of Highway 11 to thoroughly check their properties including barns, sheds, vehicles, garages and any receptacles on their properties.”

Up until now, those efforts have focused on a different section of Penetanguishene Road, near Napoleon Home Comfort. Thompson, who has dementia, was last seen on surveillance video on Feb. 3 in this area.

Officials say the search efforts will depend on new leads.
