The Crown painted a graphic and disturbing picture of Shayne Lund during his dangerous offender hearing.

The 24-year-old sat quietly in the prisoner’s box on Monday, at times looking at his father in the gallery, as the Crown laid out its arguments.

Attorneys told the court "he is an incurable pedophile" and that "the protection of the public is paramount". The Crown went on to say that "Lund's future is dark, with a long path of evil.”

Attorneys spent almost two full hours laying out the Crown's case to have Lund declared a "dangerous offender." At times they laid out explicit and graphic details of Lund's sex crimes.

It’s part of the process to pave the way for the sentence for Lund, who has pleaded guilty to dozens of sex crimes involving children and animals.

"Consider the severe psychological carnage he has left behind," Crown attorney Indy Kondola said.

The court also heard that Lund's offenses started when he was 13 and that his victims ranged from very young children to older adults. The Crown called him a sexual sadist, a pedophile, and a narcissist.

They asked the judge to "consider the severe psychological carnage he has left behind".

A doctor has testified that Lund is considered a medium to high risk to reoffend.

The defence is fighting the dangerous offender status and instead, wants something called a "long-term offender" status. That status would see Lund serve more time behind bars, but possibly have fewer restrictions after he's released.”

The defence argues that Lund can be controlled with proper medication and supervision.

“He is going to need pharmaceutical interventions for life,” said Eginhart Ehlers, Lund's defence lawyer.

The judge will now take a few weeks to consider all of the arguments made during this hearing, and the victim impact statements.

He's scheduled the next court date for Oct. 19.
