Highway 400 has reopened in Barrie after a woman was seriously injured.

Police say the woman got out of a moving vehicle on the highway at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday. She was not struck by a vehicle.

Simcoe County paramedics say the woman suffered serious head injuries. She has been taken to a Toronto hospital for treatment.

The highway was closed in the northbound lanes ust before Essa Road. The OPP was rerouting traffic off at Essa.

Police are now investigating why the woman got out of the vehicle.

They are talking to witnesses including the driver of the vehicle she was with.
