Driver dies after head-on crash between dump truck, car in East Gwillimbury

A dump truck that was involved in a serious collision in Newmarket on Monday afternoon is shown in this aerial photo.

One person has died, following a head-on crash between a dump truck and car just outside of Newmarket.

The crash happened in the area of Davis Drive and Kennedy Road in East Gwillimbury on Monday, at around 3:10 p.m. after York Regional Police say one of the vehicles crossed the centre line.

The driver of the car had to be extricated and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the dump truck remains in hospital with minor injuries.

Davis and Kennedy are expected to remain closed for an unknown amount of time.

The investigation is ongoing.
