County Road 90 between Barrie and Angus is being expanded to reflect how busy it has become. Drivers say the expansion is taking longer than they’d like, but the County says everything in on schedule despite unexpected challenges.

“With the wet season, we’ve had this year it has caused us some delays with our paving operations. Our contractor needs four to five consecutive days of nice sunny good weather in order to pave an echelon, and that has been a real challenge this year,” says Julie Scruton, Manager of Transportation Construction with Simcoe County.

Yet, the County insists everything is on time.

“We’ve completed three of five phases,” says Scruton.

The next phase will focus on the road between Essa Line Eight to Smith Road. That work will begin after the Labour Day Long Weekend.

Drivers who spoke with CTV on Wednesday admit it’s going to be a slow few years, but they are fine with the delays, saying it’s a necessary evil.

“Good things come to those who wait, so it’s okay,” says one man. “As long as it improves the drive,” he adds.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
