Clearview Township says they will cover the nearly $46,000 bill to cover a 16-hour rescue operation for man trapped in a crevice this summer.

Seth Rowe, 30, was hiking in the area known as the Nottawasaga Bluffs on June 20 when he fell more than 12 metres into a crevice.

Emergency crews from Clearview, Toronto and Barrie worked for more than 16 hours to free Rowe who only suffered minor injuries.

Clearview Fire says the $45,831.29 bill comes from the Barrie and Toronto Fire Department who helped with the recue in Singhampton.

The bill covers equipment and wages and will be covered by the 2015 Clearview Fire operating budget.

Clearview Township does have the ability recoup the costs but in this case it was determined that’s in the best interest that it be covered by the township.

Fire Chief Colin Shewell says “This rescue had a very positive end for a Clearview Township resident and his family from Glen Huron, every technical rescue or emergency call for service and is based on its own merit.”
