Undercover police officers who worked to arrest Andrew Keene testified at his trial on Wednesday in Barrie.
The court heard that undercover officers spent a year trying to get Keene to confess to the murder of Alexandra Flanagan. Posing as criminals they made him a part of their fake organization, delivering and picking up bogus packages.
The jury heard investigators didn't catch a break until the officer portraying the boss confronted Keene in October 2011. In a recorded conversation, the officer tells Keene he had inside information that he killed Flanagan, however Keene repeatedly denied it.
While trying to get the confession and specific details about how Flanagan was killed, the undercover officer told Keene he had police, lawyers, and judges on his payroll and repeatedly promised Keene he could make his problem go away in a matter of days.
The jury heard at one point how the undercover officer told Keene that Flanagan's blood was found on the underside of a hockey bag at Keene's apartment during a search back in 2007 – something Keene new nothing about.
Keene told the undercover officer that Flanagan wanted ecstasy from him and that he had been drinking rum and couldn't explain what had happened, but told the undercover officer, "If you can make this go away, I will give you my life."
The officer continued to pressure Keene for a confession and more information. Keene said, “I can give you 101 different scenarios but I really don't know what happened.”
“Did you think you did her in the house,” the officer asked. Keene responded, "If I did it that would have probably been where."
The officer asked, “How did you dump her?” Keene replied by saying, “Maybe the hockey bag I guess, if they found blood in it."
Later the officer asked Keene, “Just to be clear, you did her in the house and took her out in a bag?”
Keene is accused of murdering and dismembering Flanagan in 2007. He is charged with second-degree murder.
