A jury in Barrie got a different look on Monday at the man accused of killing Alexandra Flanagan back in 2007.
A video of police interrogating accused Andrew Keene was played out for the courtroom. In it, Keene says he had no idea where Flanagan was.
"I hope she’s okay...I hope she turns up,” Keene said in the video.
The investigators asked “Do you have anything to do with her disappearance?” Keene responds by saying “No I don’t.” He went on to say, “Maybe she went on vacation.”
Keene was a person of interest after Flanagan disappeared and was interviewed several times by police in the summer of 2007. Phone records show calls and texts were made between Flanagan and Keene the day Flanagan disappeared.
Keene told police Flanagan had called him that day looking to buy drugs, but said he never ending up seeing her that weekend. The last time Keene said he saw Flanagan was months before.
“Haven`t seen her since New Year’s,” he said in the video.
Keene also told police Flanagan had never been to his apartment. Later police found a hockey bag in the apartment with traces of her DNA.
The crown has told the court, "A spot of blood was found on the underside of the lid of a hockey bag."
Flanagan's remains were found in several locations in Barrie. First in Lackies Bush, then along a walking trail near Johnson`s Beach. In 2011, the last of the remains were discovered near the OPP station on Rose Street.
The detective told the court on Monday the blood stain found in Keene`s apartment by investigators was the size of a coffee cup and it was Flanagan’s blood. The officer said he believes Flanagan, “Fell to her demise in that apartment.”
The defense responded, “Yes, but these are only theories.”
The defence lawyer representing Keene did not want to comment, and would only say the jury is going to have to consider the evidence as a whole before jumping to any conclusions.
More than a dozen witnesses are expected to testify on behalf of the Crown. The Flanagan’s family tells CTV News that while this is a difficult process, they are hoping for answers too.
