Stevenson Memorial Hospital is looking to address the growing population by modernizing the hospital.
Officials with the hospital launched the campaign on Wednesday with the goal of raising $8 million. The money will help upgrade equipment, and start a new program called Shared Health Information Network Exchange or “Shine”.
"With what we have today, our future is limited and we need to take a bold step into the future,” says Dr. Barry Nathanson, chief of staff.
Shine will help create a partnership between Stevenson Memorial, Southlake Regional Health Centre and Markham Stouffville Hospital, making it a lot easier for the three hospitals to share patient information.
"Having been a patient I know that when I come to a provider to receive care what I want to know is besides what I can give them in the moment they have the information, and the tools that they need to provide the best care that they've been trained to provide," says Paul Heck, chief financial and information officer.
The campaign got off to a good start thanks to a $1 million donation from the Nottawasga Foundation.
