Barrie firefighters are on the scene of an intense structure fire on Jones Drive.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, fire crews responded to a call from a homeowner reporting that their house was consumed by heavy smoke.

Six fire trucks were dispatched to the blaze.

Deputy Fire Chief Eric MacFadden said, crews initially attacked the fire from inside of the home, but due to escalating smoke and safety protocol, they shifted to a defensive strategy, battling the flames from outside.

Barrie police are on-site, assisting with traffic control and ensuring public safety in the neighbourhood.

No injuries have been reported at this time, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is an active incident, CTV will post updates as they become available.
