Another winter storm is walloping parts of the province, and today major highways were in terrible shape.

Several roads were closed today, and it's been a challenge for drivers everywhere and for police responding to crash after crash.

At one point today there were so many crashes, OPP were responding to nearly a call every minute.

A 61-year-old woman was killed after a three-vehicle crash in Markham this morning. The road was covered in snow at the time of crash.

Meanwhile, Highway 89 and Airport Road were closed this afternoon because of blowing snow and slippery condition.

Highway 11 near Orillia was in similar condition.

Flights coming and going from Canada’s largest airport were also affected today. Pearson International Airport had nearly 200 cancelled arrivals and 200 cancelled departures by noon alone.

And for people heading home tonight it’s still slow going.

Environment Canada says an intensifying low pressure system from Indiana tracked south of the Lower Great Lakes, with rain or wet snow spreading into parts of southwestern Ontario and Niagara. The rain quickly changed to snow in places.
