A driver crashed into a utility pole in Tay Township early Saturday morning after allegedly swerving to avoid wildlife that was on the road.

Police say the incident occurred just after 6:30 a.m. on Highway 12 at Duffey Drive, and that the vehicle flipped upside down as a result of the crash. There were no other vehicles involved, and it is unknown whether there were any injuries.

The area was closed until around 10 a.m. as crews repaired the downed power lines and Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers investigated the scene.

Police remind drivers to be watchful for wildlife on the road at this time of year.
