These are tense times for people who have been living in the Blue Mountain Lodge and were suddenly kicked out without notice.
More than 20 people had been renting rooms at the former motel and were told on Friday to move out.
“We didn’t have an eviction notice,” said lodge resident Lynn McCarl.
The problem is a broken sewer pipe in the basement.
While some people are now staying with friends, the Salvation Army is providing temporary shelter for others. More than half of the residents came back to the lodge Thursday.
“We didn’t have anywhere to go, so we had to come back,” said lodge resident Jeff Brookes.
The Blue Mountain Lodge is located on a parcel of land that was going to be developed, but the company that owns the property went into receivership.
CTV Barrie made several calls to the property management company, but those calls went unanswered.
According to town and local fire officials, the building has not been deemed unsafe. Many residents are now wondering why repairs are not being made.
Another concern, without proper eviction notices residents can’t access help from social services to find a new place to live.
About half of the affected residents say they have nowhere to go and will be staying at the lodge Thursday night.
“I don’t have any options,” said McCarl.
