Toronto Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas has been charged with driving under the influence in Wasaga Beach Monday morning
OPP say they got a report around 2:30 a.m. that a silver vehicle allegedly driven by Valanciunas went through a drive-thru with open beer bottles being seen.
The vehicle was located at a home on Oxbow Park Road and a police investigation revealed that Valanciunas was under the influence while in control of his vehicle.
Valanciunas released this statement on Monday night: “I hold myself to a high standard and take my role as a member of the Toronto Raptors very seriously. I apologize to the organization, my teammates, my family and my fans, and regret any negativity this incident has brought upon them.”
The Toronto Raptors also released a statement on Monday night: "We were made aware this morning of the incident involving Jonas Valanciunas and are disappointed he has put himself in this situation. We take this matter very seriously as we have the highest expectations for all members of our organization. At this time we are continuing to gather information and we will comment further when appropriate."
Valanciunas is charged with having greater than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood and will make his first court appearance in a Collingwood court on April 22nd.
He is in his second season with the playoff-bound Raptors, and is averaging 11 points and 8.6 rebounds a game.
