Police continue to investigate the death of a missing Barrie woman.
Investigators blocked off an entrance to the Simcoe County forest, north of Midhurst, for most of Saturday.
Police have been on scene since Wednesday when human remains, belonging to Jaimee Lee Miller, were found. Miller went missing from Barrie last fall.
Investigators with the OPP and Barrie Police are now treating the investigation as a homicide.
Police won’t release the cause of death but say the type of post-mortem examination done is quite complex.
“It’s a very, very thorough, very detailed comprehensive post-mortem examination and it is although complete and a cause of death has been determined, there is still subsequent testing that is required to take place,” said OPP Sgt. Peter Leon.
Miller was last seen by family and friends on Saturday, October 3, 2015, and was last heard from via text message on Thanksgiving weekend.
“The investigation has been ongoing since it was reported to police, and it’s been a thorough investigation up until this time,” says Barrie Police Const. Sarah Bamford.
The homicide is now a joint investigation between Barrie Police and the OPP.
Police wrapped up their investigation at the scene in the Simcoe County forest late Saturday afternoon but they will continue to have a presence in the community, canvassing the area.
