A Barrie-based dermatologist, who is currently being investigated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, has been charged by police.
Barrie police charged Dr. Rod Kunynetz with two counts of sexual assault for alleged incidents involving two female patients that happened in 1998 and 2011.
Police laid the charges on Oct. 30 and was released with a promise to appear later in court. Barrie police confirmed the charges on Monday.
Investigators say after speaking with witnesses, they determined there was enough evidence to charge Kunynetz.
The college has been actively investigating four complaints of sexual assault made against Kunynetz. Those alleged crimes happened between 1999 and 2013.
While conducting their investigation, the college imposed rules on Kunynetz, which required him to not treat female patients of any age or even be alone in a room with them unless a college approved female monitor was present.
He was also required to keep a patient log book and have notices about these rules up in the waiting and examination rooms.
The college suspended Kunynetz’s medical licence last month after he allegedly broke a number of those rules. However, the college has never elaborated as to which of the rules were violated.
The matter involving the college is now before a disciplinary committee.
Police believe there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to contact them or anonymously Crime Stoppers.
