Share

Barrie police arrested a man accused of waving an edged weapon at store security while attempting to shoplift.

Police say the incident happened early Wednesday afternoon at the LCBO on Bayfield Street.

Officers arrived and “immediately diffused the situation,” taking the man into custody.

The service says the man had also been involved in a similar theft downtown prior to the liquor store incident.

“After a quick search of the parking lot, police were able to locate the arrested male’s motor vehicle and located stolen property from the earlier theft,’ Barrie police stated.

The 54-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with several offences, including theft under $5,000, armed robbery, and assault with a weapon.

Police say no one was injured in either incident, and all the stolen property was recovered.
