Work is underway at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds for the WayHome Music and Arts Festival, but before the crowds arrive the township must decide on a special events permit.

Crews were busy Monday marking the ground for stage locations, food trucks and art installations ahead of the festival which begins on July 22nd.

This will be the second year for the festival which will include four stages, better parking and more space for foot traffic.

Festival headliners this year include LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire and The Killers.

More than 60 artists will take to the stage from July 22 to the 24.

Organizers are expecting close to 35, 000 people to attend each day, which is about an increase of 20 per cent from last year.

“This year we’ve sold tickets in every province, over twenty states, as well as international countries,” said Ryan Howes, festival director.

Burl's Creek can use 92 acres of the 650 acre property for the music festivals. Organizers say they plan to keep the festival within the zoned land, but that's oending the township approving a special events permit.

A council meeting has schedule for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for councillors to decide on the special events permit.

“It’s necessary first of all because of the time sensitivity to be able to make a decision and secondly, we have a schedule where councillors are going on holidays and we want to make sure that all members of council are present for the decisions,” said Oro-Medonte Mayor Harry Hughes.

The public will have an opportunity to give their input on the special events permit at the council meeting.

Residents can also e-mail their comments to the township.
