Ontario Liberals have gathered for a weekend meeting in Blue Mountain and protestors have made the trip to join them.

In an effort to get the Premier’s attention about 100 OPSEU members took to the streets in the Town of Blue Mountain on Friday.

Two Paper Mache effigies of Premier Wynne were marched up and down the road not far from where the Liberals are holding their meetings.

Andrew Parker organized Friday’s rally and says those who came were prison guards, MNR staff, Service Ontario and the Ontario Disability Support Program – 36,000 workers who have been without a contract since December.

“(We have) been without a contract since December 31, Kathleen Wynne hasn’t even come to the bargaining table. She put out a proposal on or around November 25 to us absolutely cutting everything from benefits, suggesting we go through another four years of a wage freeze at zero,” says Barker.

Aside from trying to get a new deal with the province, the protestors were also trying to prevent the province from selling off Hydro One.

“They’ll sell a dollars’ worth of future revenue for sixty cents today. It’s the pay more get less plan,” says OPSEU president Smokey Thomas.

More protests are planned on Saturday, with busloads of teachers expected to join in on the protests.
