Alliston Union public school will opens its doors to students for the first time next week, but the brand new school is already over capacity.
The school has 700 students registered already; enough to warrant 8 portables at the back of the school for overflow.
"We're also having a number of registrations due to full day kindergarten which we didn't have last year, we also have a specialized extended French program and an early French immersion program," said Alliston Union principal Greg Jacobs.
The reason for the new school already bursting at the seams, a quickly growing population in the surrounding area.
"We respond to the growth of community, but we can't build a school as fast as the growth takes place," said John Dance, the Simcoe County District School Boards superintendent of facility services.
Teachers and staff are busy setting up the classrooms and keeping their fingers crossed that construction will be done on time. Despite the last-minute crunch, teachers are overjoyed to have a brand new space to move into this September.
The principal anticipates even more students next year due to a new subdivision being built in the area.
