The Mayor of Tiny Township is promising to deal with new complaints about Balm Beach.
Nichlas Lelovic, a home owner along the beachfront, says he is continuing to have problems with people trespassing and vandalizing his property.
“We've called the police in. The OPP have been here numerous times over the last two weeks,” he says. “They have broken signs and overturned boats.”
Lelovic wants something to be done.
However, those who want access to the beach say the town isn’t doing enough to find a solution.
“These same issues keep coming up and council is not stepping up,” says Jennie Gomes. “Nobody is stepping up to answer our questions.”
Mayor George Cornell says council is working again to try to find some common ground.
“We are taking steps to look at how we can improve the beach experience and we would ask for people's patience, mutual respect and give us a chance to address all of those issues that have been brought forward,” he says.
Council says it is considering new signs and other rules, but says it can only control and manage municipally owned property.
Not all private property owners are pushing people away.
“I love this beach and I want to share it with as many people as I can because I think everyone should have the opportunity to experience such a wonderful beautiful beach,” says Gord Hagen.
Council says those new signs it is considering would basically inform people of what is private and what is public. They believe that education is as important as enforcement.
It will also look at a new parking strategy and even enhancements to the public beach area itself.
The next key date is Aug. 8 when Tiny Township council will meet again to decide its next course of action.
