Provincial police say a 59-year-old Toronto man is facing charges in an alleged road rage incident that left a toddler in critical condition.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the man is charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm following an investigation into a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Toronto.

Schmidt says it's alleged the accused slowed down in front of a taxi carrying five people in "some type of street justice" and another vehicle ran into the back of the cab.

The female driver of the cab and a 17-month-old girl were taken to hospital with serious injuries and the toddler remains in critical condition.

Toronto paramedics said two other kids and another adult were also taken to hospital with less serious injuries as a result of the crash.
