Police in Barrie arrested and charged a man accused of being a "habitual offender" for allegedly being involved in five thefts from the same store this month.

According to local authorities, officers responded to a report about a man trying to steal from a convenience store on Anne Street North and Dunlop Street West early Monday morning.

They say the accused, 41, of no fixed address, was charged with failing to comply with court orders.

Police say the man was also linked to a theft the day prior, where a quantity of alcohol had been stolen, resulting in a further charge of theft under $5,000.

The accused was held in custody to await a bail hearing.
