Fire ripped through an Angus house early this morning and left it badly damaged.
The house, at Julie Street and Edenbridge Drive, caught fire around 7:20 a.m. today. Neighbours noticed fire on the back deck and woke up the residents, who were able to get out safely.
Crew who got there first say the deck was engulfed and flames were moving up the back wall and into the eaves. There was also fire in the attic and heavy, black smoke inside the house, says Essa’s Fire Chief Cynthia Ross Tustin.
She says crews aggressively attacked the fire and knocked it down. Damage is now estimated at $475,000. The house belonged to a member of the armed forces working at Canadian Forces Base Borden.
