Investigators with the York Regional Police Homicide Unit are asking witnesses to come forward following a double stabbing in Newmarket Wednesday night.

Police tape surrounded 795 Davis Drive on Thursday as dozens of officers collected information inside and outside the building.

“I’m shocked – that’s the first words out of my mouth. I just can’t believe this,” said Newmarket resident Anne Chroscicki.

A trail of blood could be seen from the building’s parking lot on Thursday and police used metal detectors to search for evidence.  Police have been on the scene since they received the call 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

“When officers arrived at the scene they located two victims suffering from stab wounds. A 65-year-old man from Newmarket unfortunately died of his injuries,” says York Regional Police Constable Laura Nicolle.

Police confirm the deceased man as Ronidy Roseborough, the other man remains in hospital on Thursday in critical condition.

“We have information to suggest that they were acquaintances of one another – it appears as they were friends,” added Nicolle.

Police canvassed the area on Thursday gathering information and so far no arrests have been made.

“At this point we’re still looking for the suspects. We believe it to be three male suspects involved and information we have says they may be in a dark SUV seen leaving the area,” says Nicolle.

“This never happened before that I remember – as long as I lived here,” says Harry Vanoers.

But some area residents told CTV News that in the past drugs has been a problem in the neighbourhood. Police say it is too early in the investigation to link drugs to the crime.

“At this point I can’t speak to the motive behind this but obviously we’re investigating this thoroughly,” added Nicolle.
