Officials believe that a fire that destroyed a garage at a home in Essa Township was caused by an electrical problem.
Fire crews were called to a house fire in Essa Township just north of Highway 89 shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday night.
Fire Chief Cynthia Ross Tustin tells CTV News all of Essa’s trucks were called to the fire. The fire happened on the 6th Line and crews went inside to fight the flames.
Neighbouring departments from Innisfil and New Tecumseth were called for mutual aid as well.
Nobody was home at the time of the fire and Ross Tustin says they were able to prevent the fire from spreading thanks to a neighbour who called 911.
The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical and damage is estimated at between $150,000 and $175,000.
