A tentative agreement was reached between the City of Barrie and CUPE Local 2380 on Thursday.
In release sent out by the City of Barrie on Thursday, officials say the agreement was reached early Thursday morning but remains tentative until ratified by both sides.
The agreement is a multi-year deal and the details remain confidential until ratified.
“I am very pleased a tentative agreement has been reached between the City and CUPE Local 2380 representing the city’s inside and outside employees,” said Carla Ladd, Chief Administrative Officer in a release. “The agreement acknowledges the commitment and dedication of our staff in serving the residents of Barrie.”
“We are glad that a tentative deal was reached with the City,” said Jacob Reid, CUPE Local 2380 president in the release. “Both sides worked hard to come to an agreement early this morning and we believe this was the right decision for our members and the community we provide important public services for.”
The current contract expired on December 31, 2014. It is expected that the Union and City Council will vote on the tentative agreement in the coming weeks.
CUPE Local 2380 represents municipal workers who provide public services ranging from parks and recreational services, water and wastewater treatment, public works, court house services, financial and administrative services, city planning, by-law enforcement, building and marina services, and others.
