The Crown made its closing arguments on Wednesday in the sensational first-degree murder trial of Margaret Lee Cole.

The Crown, Mike Flosman, told the jury that Cole was desperate for money and went after Richard Humble's assets. The Crown alleges when Cole drugged the 82-year-old,  it wasn't enough to kill him, so she set fire to his house and then forged his will and power of attorney documents.

“Ms. Cole was desperate for cash, so she was moving in on Mr. Humble’s assets.”

Experts have testified the will was forged and the Crown says evidence will prove Cole did it.

In 2011, Humble was pulled from his home in Washago by neighbours, but suffered extensive burns to his body and later died from his injuries. Cole was a family friend who took on the role of caregiver for humble.

The defence will make its closing arguments on Thursday.
