Construction progress on County Road 4 in Bradford West Gwillimbury
Construction crews are making steady progress on County Road 4 in Bradford West Gwillimbury after a full closure that began last month.
The lengthy closure is essential for replacing the Scanlon Creek culvert at the intersection of County Road 4 and Line 10.
So far, the Town says several key milestones have been reached. Workers have backfilled the large culvert to within three feet of the top and poured a concrete slab over rebar placed at the culvert’s surface.
Crews have also started shaping the new river channel by placing riverstone inside the culvert and along its embankments.
In addition, construction has begun on widening the intersection of Line 9 and County Road 4 to prepare for future traffic signals.
Between Line 9 and Line 10, a smaller culvert was replaced with a new concrete one to improve drainage.
The Town says the project is on schedule, with the road expected to reopen by mid-December, and noted that closing the road has already paid off by saving three to four months of construction time and over $1 million.

To improve traffic flow through the area, flaggers are directing vehicles along Sideroad 10, and the signal timing at the intersection has been adjusted for a longer green light for southbound drivers.
What's Open
Businesses in the area, including Bradford Greenhouses, remain open and are accessible from Line 12 or Yonge Street.
Local gas stations, including the Ultramar on County Road 89 and Trotter’s Esso on Yonge Street, are also open despite the construction.
This construction is part of a larger project to widen County Road 4 from two lanes to four lanes over 10 kilometres from Line 8 to County Road 89, adding a multi-use trail, improving drainage, and enhancing safety features.
Once complete, the upgrades will support smoother traffic flow and reduce future disruptions.
