The Conservative party has taken the new riding of Barrie-Innisfil.

CTV News declared Conservative John Brassard the winner in Barrie-Innisfil defeating five other candidates including Liberal Colin Wilson and NDP Myrna Clark.

Brassard is a former firefighter and has been a city councillor in Barrie’s Ward 7 since 2006.

The riding was created during the federal electoral redistribution of 2012 and replaces the former riding of Barrie. That riding was held by former Conservative MP Patrick Brown, before he stepped down after winning the Progressive Conservative leadership.
