Police in Barrie are investigating an alleged armed robbery at a convenience store over the weekend that resulted in significant damage.

Officers were called to the store on Glenwood Drive near Bayfield Street around 10:40 Sunday morning for a man accused of distracting the employee before jumping behind the counter and demanding cash.

Police say the suspect grabbed an undisclosed amount of money and then fell into a glass display case, causing it to crash to the floor.

They are looking for a white man, roughly 40 to 45 years old, with a scruffy beard, short light-coloured hair, and a grey hoodie and blue pants, who took off on foot north on Bayfield Street.

Police say he disappeared after running behind some nearby businesses.

Anyone with information, surveillance or dash camera footage of the incident is asked to contact the investigating officer via email.

Police say they are waiting to obtain surveillance footage from the Glenwood Drive store, which they believe will help with the investigation.
