Thousands of hungry pastry lovers packed the streets of Midland, Ont. for the first ever butter tart festival.

More than 80 applicants from across Ontario entered into the competition on Saturday, June 15th, 2013.

Twelve judges were put in charge of tasting and looking for the best butter tart.

“I like a nice runny tart myself, I like the way they look, I like the way they taste” said Simcoe North M.P.P. and butter tart judge Garfield Dunlop.

And today’s big winner was Nancy Dillen from Barrie, Ont. She has won $500 and a kitchen mixer.
