Transit riders can now use Google Maps to plan their routes and timing.

The city says as part of its new system, they have teamed up with Google to make transit data accessible through the online maps website. Riders can search and compare transit routes using the ‘public transit’ option alongside car and foot options for trip duration.

“Giving residents the option to plan their transit trips with Google Maps is another way we’re making transit more accessible in Barrie,” Mayor Jeff Lehman said in a news release. “Working with Google not only allows us to provide riders with the information they need to reach their destinations quickly, but also helps build awareness about public transit options in Barrie and attract new riders.”

The trip planner will give riders at least three options, which will show the amount of time and number of transfers for each option. Suggested routes could vary in trip length, number of transfers required, departure and arrival times, or the amount of walking involved, the city says.

In a news release, Ryan Poscharsky, strategic partner and manager at Google, said the partnership will “provide useful and accurate information to help people quickly get where they want to go.”

Riders can visit the trip planner on the city’s website. Google Maps can also be downloaded on selected mobile devices.
