The City of Barrie is taking a second look at its new transit system after hearing hundreds of complaints from riders.
Council voted last night, Aug. 26, to make more changes to the system just over a week after the new routes were implemented.
“What council did tonight is to direct staff to make those changes as soon as possible, to address some of those big concerns that we know are out there,” Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman said last night.
The new system includes more than 150 new bus stops and routes based around seven hubs throughout the city, instead of one downtown hub. Some of the complaints the city heard include a lack of early service for south-end industrial workers, and what some people called "poorly located stops".
The mayor says they're listening.
“It's also important to let us know where the system is working and where it isn’t,” Lehman said. “Then we'll make changes in the coming months to tweak the system.”
Lehman says they expected some growing pains, but says the goal is a more efficient system for passengers.
