Barrie’s mayor admits there will be some growing pains for the next few days after the city launched its new transit system.

The system, which launched Saturday morning, uses seven hubs and 150 new stops.

But the new system has some riders frustrated. Giovanni Mercado works downtown and the new changes made him late for work.

“The bus I usually take usually takes me downtown and now it takes all detours and it only goes to the Molson Centre and Allendale Go Station so now I have to take another bus downtown,” says Mercado.

Officials say the changes, which have been in the works for more than two years, puts more buses on the roads – allows riders to get to more destination without having to change buses.

“We’re hoping over the next months and years this brings more people on the system because it is faster, you don’t have to change as often, and you can get to where you are going without going downtown,” say Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman.

And starting August 26th, there will be a new weekday route through Angus before stopping at Base Borden.
