The Barrie Country Club junior team took home three team titles and five individual titles in recent play.
This marks the first time the team’s 23-year history it has won three titles in the same year. The country club swept the team awards for the 2013 Pepsi-Titleist Junior Tour, claiming the girls’ division, boys’ division and the overall team title.
The Barrie Country Club juniors won five of the eight individual age-group overall awards with points accumulating over the six rounds of golf.
Hugh McLaren (junior), Andrew Nagel (juvenile), and Michael Ikijiani (minor bantam) won the individual boys’ awards. Alex Hay (junior) and Rachel Pearson (bantam) claimed victories in the individual girls’ age groups.
The final event was played at Shelburne Golf and Country Club.
“The commitment and effort of the juniors throughout the season combined to add up to team success,” coach and PGA pro Terry Smith says. “For many of the older juniors it was a goal to bring the championship to Barrie CC before their junior days were done.”
Barrie CC head professional Bill Wogden says the win is another highlight of the club’s 100th-anniversary season.
The tour includes junior teams from Barrie, South Muskoka, Midland, Horseshoe, Shanty Bay and Shelburne golf clubs. Each of the six clubs hosts a tournament during the summer schedule.
And the Barrie Country Club most recently won in 2003 for the girls’ and overall titles and in 2000 for the boys’ title. The junior program has more than 80 golfers.
