The Barrie Colts went with experience when they named the new leader of their team.

On Thursday, the Colts head coach Dale Hawerchuk named defenceman Michael Webster the 17th captain in franchise history.

The 20-year-old is in his fourth season in the Ontario Hockey League, all with the Barrie Colts.

“Obviously this is a huge honour,” said Webster in a release after being named the team’s new captain. “Especially after former captains who I have played with the last couple years like Ryan O’Connor, Aaron Ekblad and Joseph Blandisi. They were all incredible teammates and very successful players.”

The Barrie Colts also named forwards Justin Scott and Andrew Mangiapane as alternate captains of the team.

The Colts begin their season Friday night in Kingston.
