Alliston hospital adds state-of-the-art MRI suite to major expansion plans
Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) announced that a state-of-the-art MRI suite will be included in its plans for an expanded hospital facility.
Major expansion plans are in the works for the Alliston hospital to better serve New Tecumseth and eliminate the need for residents to travel outside the area for health care.

The hospital expansion will wrap around the existing building and house the new imaging equipment.
“We’re thrilled that Stevenson will have a full complement of diagnostic imaging services that will include MRI once the new facility opens,” stated Barbara Steed, SMH interim president and CEO.
Officials say the new hospital will be three times larger than the current facility and will significantly improve its clinical capabilities.
The emergency department will triple in size, include a separate entrance, and feature enclosed ambulance bays.
The upgrades also include an increased inpatient bed capacity by 20 per cent, expanded surgical and birthing suites, and enhanced laboratory space.
“A new, elevated helipad will also be a part of the project,” officials noted.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2025.
