The Barrie Baycats are off to face Brantford in the Intercounty Baseball League final.

It’ll be the fifth time the Barrie squad has faced the Red Sox in the championship round in six years, and manager Angus Roy says his team is ready.

“We know what to expect, they know what to expect,” Roy says.

The team isn’t doing anything extraordinary to get ready for the big series. Roy says “the guys have the right mindset now.” They learned a tough lesson when they dropped game one to Hamilton in the quarter-final round 13-8.

“We realize we have to come ready to play every single game,” Roy says. “We’ve learned what it takes to win.”

After that loss, the ’Cats then went on to win eight-straight to clinch their place in the finals, sweeping the London Majors out of the semi-finals with a confident 10-4 win last night. It’s a momentum Roy hopes will continue as the Red Sox have bested the Baycats three times in the final round in recent years. Brantford took Guelph in six games in the quarter-finals and beat Kitchener in five in the semi-finals.

“We’re ready for the challenge,” Roy says. “We know we will have to play some darn good baseball to win.”
