Barrie police are looking to identify two suspects wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation that started in Peel Region and ended up in the north end of the city with the arrest of a 16-year-old.

The local authorities say they received a call Sunday afternoon about a vehicle that was possibly in the north end of Barrie after being stolen from a Mississauga banquet hall.

Witnesses say police vehicles rammed the allegedly stolen SUV in a Peel Street parking lot, pinning it so the occupants couldn’t drive off.

According to police, two individuals fled on foot, while a teen, who was a passenger in the SUV, was apprehended.

The K9 unit conducted a search for the driver and second passenger but police say were unsuccessful locating them.

Two police vehicles were damaged while trying to prevent the SUV from taking off, but none of the officers involved were injured.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with possession of property by crime over $5,000. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in youth court to answer to the charge.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, noting the forensics identification team is examining the allegedly stolen vehicle for evidence.
