In CTV's the Amazing Race Canada, competitors trek across the country completing challenges. Today in Orillia, many called an event there, as 14 teams raced across the Sunshine City, the Amazing Race.
They went from competing in challenges in the library to crawling in mazes, all in an effort to raise money for North Simcoe Victim Crisis Services, which supports victims of crime and tragedy.
Cara Brown and her team spent time rotating tires for a challenge, but says the challenge of volunteering for North Simcoe Victim Crisis Services is as rewarding as it is invaluable to the community.
“A wonderful organization and great cause that does things for people and we get to give back to it as much as we can,” she says.
Christina Wiggins took on a challenge to eat a plate of pasta without using her hands. She says her team is comprised of big Amazing Race Canada fans and she's learned a thing or two from the show to help her in this race.
“Yes we do watch it and I believe we have an advantage,” she says. “We have a strategy plan.”
The "Whine Not" team, meanwhile, has a strategy they’ll share – after raising almost $900 the agency
“Our strategy is to psych the other teams that were intoxicated,” says Marylin Thomson.
But what are they really drinking?
“Ginger ale,” Thompson says. “We’re being responsible.”
Prizes for best-costumed teams were awarded, and the Scarecrows may have been the front runners. And even though she had an injury, Carol Ruby says it was an honour to compete in the race and wasn't going to miss it for anything.
“I had surgery on Thursday, on my hand,” she says.
