A man was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries after a motorcycle and a police vehicle collided Wwednesday afternoon just north of Barrie.

And Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has been called to look into the crash.

The SIU says Wednesday afternoon at about 2:15 p.m., an OPP officer tried to stop a motorcycle travelling south in the area of Line 2 in Oro-Medonte Township.

The motorcycle rider, a 27-year-old man, didn't stop, the SIU says, and the bike then collided with a police vehicle at the intersection of Line 2 and Mount St. Louis Road West.

The SIU says the rider suffered serious injuries and was first taken to RVH in Barrie, and later transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital.

Officials tell CTV News the officer, from the Southern Georgian Bay detatchment, is okay after the incident.

The OPP and the SIU were on the scene for several hours on Wednesday night while they investigated.

The SIU has assigned four investigators and two forensic investigators to the case.
