Orillia’s newest high school officially opened its doors for staff and students on Monday morning.
Students were led by the school band from their former school to Orillia Secondary School on Collegiate Drive.
The cost to build the new high school is estimated between $28. million and $34 million. It stands two and a half stories high.
The secondary school replaces Park Street Collegiate and Orillia District Collegiate and Vocational Institue.
The high school contains 45 classrooms and will accommodate 1,110 students.
The facility also features an expansive front entrance, a health sciences facility, learning commons, triple gymnasium, drama and music rooms, a cafeteria with a stage and a theatre that can sit about 150 people.
The Simcoe County District School Board said it will save hundreds of thousands of dollars every year by spending less on hydro, thanks to natural lighting. Officials believe there will even be a savings on heat and air conditioning.
