Police are investigating after a body was discovered in Orillia on Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to Fittons Road East in Orillia on Monday, just before 11 a.m. According to the Orillia Fire Department, a letter carrier found the body of a 73-year-old man on the front porch of a house.

Neighbours tell CTV News that a man lived at the address alone and that he is a former local high school teacher.

Ken Brandon lives across the street and says the man built his home several years ago. Brandon woke up on Monday morning and was stunned by all the activity.

“I just seen the fire trucks come, then the paramedic sand then the cruiser,” he says.

A coroner has attended the scene and a post-mortem has been scheduled. Investigators spent part of the day knocking on neighbour’s doors in the hopes that someone saw something.

Police say so far they still don’t know if the man died outside or if something else happened and he died of exposure. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the second body found outside in Orillia in less than a week. On Friday, a 44-year-old woman was found with no vital signs on the sidewalk, near Park Street and Gerald Avenue.

OPP have ruled that sudden death as being not suspicious in nature.
